CHICAGO— The Colonie, one of Chicago’s top
providers of creative editorial, finishing and motion design services for
advertising, has promoted Brian Salazar to editor.
The latest example of The Colonie’s penchant for developing
creative talent from within, Salazar began his career as an intern with the
company in 2008. Having honed his skills as an assistant to editor and partner
Bob Ackerman, he began making the transition to editor in 2010, cutting spots
and other media for such brands as Levi’s, ConAgra, Kellogg’s and Pacific Gas
and Electric. His latest work includes a series of web videos for ComEd’s
“Coolest Summer Ever Forever” promotion debuting this month. He collaborated on
that project with a creative team from Leo Burnett.

Brian Salazar
Salazar has proven his editorial chops, says Ackerman, and
brings a different perspective to The Colonie’s creative team. “Brian impresses
me with his fresh and youthful approach to the craft of editing,” Ackerman
says.  “He often sees things form a perspective that I don’t have, but
when I see the end result I am blown away.”
“The Colonie has been fortunate to grow and expand
quickly,” Ackerman adds.  “We have talented people like Brian to thank, in
part, for that growth.”

After assisting Ackerman on campaigns for Dockers, Hallmark
and many other accounts, Salazar got his first chance to cut on a 2010 in-store
project for Dockers and Draft FCB, San Francisco. Shortly thereafter, he cut
his first broadcast ad, a spot titled Big
Sleep
that was also for Dockers and Draft FCB. It debuted during pre-game
programming for the 2011 Super Bowl. “I like cutting comedy,” Salazar says. “I
love storytelling and tugging at the heart-strings, as well.”
Ackerman believes Salazar will have an opportunity to edit a
lot of projects in all those genres. “I think Brian will become a cornerstone
of the post industry in Chicago,” he says. “He has so much exuberance and
excitement.  He’s always learning and growing and he brings that to each
and every job.”
