HOLLYWOOD—MTI Film today announced that CORTEX Dailies
has added support for decoding and encoding Apple ProRes 4444 XQ. Support is
available in a new update, CORTEX v1.5.3.
ProRes 4444 XQ delivers a very high data rate to preserve
detail captured by the latest digital cinema cameras. ARRI recently announced
support for the codec in its popular ALEXA camera.
“The new ProRes codec is
able to capture and preserve detail in high dynamic range imagery including
log-encoded imagery from cameras like the ALEXA,” observed MTI Film Vice
President of Product Development David McClure. “Its purpose is to encode
greater detail in images that will later be used as a source for color
correction or visual effects. For those processes, the higher bit rate helps.”
“The number of manufacturers who support this new codec is
growing,” McClure added. “It is a format that can be interchanged with other
applications while maintaining a high level of quality.”
