Israel U.N. Ambassador
Danny Danon to give Keynote Address

WOODLAND HILLS, Calif.—NA’AMAT USA will
commemorate 90 years as an organization at its 90th Anniversary Gala
Celebration, July 29-31, in Las Vegas. In cooperation with NA’AMAT Israel, they
provide a vast network of educational and social services for women, children
and families in Israel. Members from around the country will gather to honor
outgoing officers and install the historic, nonprofit organization’s new
National Board, take part in meetings and workshops, listen to inspiring
speakers, and celebrate nine decades of achievement and the prospects for a
bright future.

Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations, the Honorable
Danny Danon, will give the Keynote Address on Friday night and Prof. Shula
Reinharz, Founder and Director of Brandeis University’s Women’s Studies
Research Center, will be a keynote speaker on Saturday afternoon. Other
speakers will include Judy Telman, representing NA’AMAT Israel; Linda Meisel,
Executive Director of the Jewish Family and Children’s Service of Greater
Mercer County; and Dr. Nick Spirtos, Director, Division of Gynecologic Oncology at
the Women’s Cancer Center of Las Vegas.

“Our
mission is as important today as it was in 1925,” said outgoing President
Elizabeth Raider. “In cooperation with our sister organization, NA’AMAT Israel,
we continue to expand our programs in Israel in response to the ever-changing
needs of Israeli society. We come to Las Vegas with pride for the tremendous
progress we’ve made, and resolute in the knowledge that our work is not done.
Our organization remains strong and will continue to grow and prosper under our
new leadership.”
NA’AMAT USA’s new National Board will be installed at the
Gala’s climactic event on Sunday, July 31st. A new President, Chellie
Goldwater Wilensky of Chicago will be installed as well as Vice Presidents and other
officers. All officers will serve three-year terms.

NA’AMAT, originally Pioneer Women, was formed 90 years ago
in New York City by a group of progressive women to provide moral and material
support to their sisters making Aliyah to Palestine. In the years since, with
Golda Meir heading the organization 1932-34, NA’AMAT USA has broadened
its scope and extended its membership around the world. Today, NA’AMAT Israel
is the largest women’s movement in the country, with more than 300,000 members.
It operates hundreds of daycare centers serving thousands of Jewish and Arab
families across Israel, as well as high schools for disadvantaged youth, women’s
centers offering health care, legal aid and domestic violence support, and
other social, educational and health-related services. NA’AMAT USA also
supports a Professional Scholarship Program providing scholarships for women
obtaining higher level education. Most recently, they have added the Justice
Ruth Bader Ginsburg Scholarship (recent recipient of the 2016 Golda Meir
Humanitarian Award) for women studying law in Israel.
In the United States, NA’AMAT USA serves as a strong advocate
for progressive legislation advancing women’s rights, gender equality, child
welfare, and educational initiatives. It is a member of the Conference of
Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, American Zionist Movement
and the World Zionist Organization.
